Inhabiting the gesture (Havana, 2019-2020) is a project by Naves Matadero. International Center for Living Arts (Madrid) in collaboration with a team of Cuban institutions, researchers and professionals from various disciplines (performing arts, architecture, law, visual arts, heritage specialists, etc.) and supported by the Siemens Foundation.

It was created to connect the architectural practice with the artistic and human community of the city of Havana, based on the knowledge and relational experimentation (in the social and community sphere) of the architect Santiago Cirugeda and his collective Recetas Urbanas.

Due to the unquestionable importance of architecture in Havana and the interest of the community to create from dialogue, we decided to invite Santiago Cirugeda to establish a direct relationship with the local artistic community and society, linked to the different spaces on which that we wanted to intervene and articulate a collective thought.

Due to the nature of rescue and research in spaces of heritage value in the city of Havana, always for the benefit and function of the communities that inhabit them. Due to the beauty and cultural relevance of these spaces and the power that they can detonate depending on the urban environment and the community geography in which they are located, "Inhabiting the gesture" is a project that wishes to carry out an artistic and architectural intervention of weight in a specific space of the city, after having considered dissimilar spaces, buildings and communities whose heritage value is undeniable. This central space is the large house located on Calle Línea corner a 14, in the neighborhood of El Vedado, better known as the Casa de Dulce María Loynaz. A place where the great writer lived with her family for many years.

The idea was to work from the concept of collaboration and generate two teams to work closely in the two locations: Spain (work team of Recetas Urbanas-Sevilla and Naves Matadero-Madrid) and Havana (nucleus of three researchers and stage critics that already generated initiatives among themselves).
